What Changed in 2026
Protect-A-Bed historically supplied the pest control and hospitality trade. As of 1 September 2026, protectabed.com has no hospitality or commercial section. The /hospitality URL redirects to the consumer homepage, and there is no commercial, contract, trade or wholesale page on the site. The published catalog is six consumer products, priced from roughly $30 to $80.

Where the Real Difference Sits
The closure, not the fabric
Most encasements use comparable barrier fabric. The failure point is almost always the zipper end, where a small gap remains once the slider stops. Bed bugs can pass through an opening thinner than a credit card, so that gap decides whether the rest of the cover matters. The BugStop® Seal is a patented tunnel closure built specifically to eliminate it, and it is the closure, not just the fabric, that Snell Scientifics tested.
Documentation you can attach to a submission
For a home purchase, marketing language is enough. For a brand standard, an insurer, a housing authority or a contracting officer, you need a named laboratory, a named standard and a report you can put in a file. We publish ours rather than holding them for request, which means you can verify our claims before buying rather than after.
Buying in volume

What We Will Not Claim
- That their product does not work. AllerZip® is a competent six-sided encasement and has protected a lot of beds.
- That they hold no certifications. We can only tell you what is published on their website today. Ask them for current documentation if you need it.
- That we win on consumer convenience. Their 100-night return period is longer than our 30-day exchange window. Bedding health regulations limit what we can accept back once a cover has been on a mattress, and we would rather explain that than pretend otherwise.
Common Questions
Is Bargoose or Protect-A-Bed better for a hotel?
For a hotel, Bargoose. Not because the product is dramatically different at the fabric level, but because a property program needs things a consumer catalog does not provide: case packs, volume pricing, institutional depths and sizes, published compliance documentation for brand standards, and a commercial contact. As of 1 September 2026, protectabed.com publishes none of those.
How does the BugStop® Seal differ from BugLock®?
Both address the same weakness, which is the gap left where a zipper terminates. The BugStop® Seal is protected under U.S. Patent No. 8,413,276 and uses a tunnel closure with a folding barrier flap that seals over the zipper end.
The distinction we would point to is testing rather than design language: our closure was independently tested by Snell Scientifics, LLC and verified bite-proof and escape-proof, and that report is published on our site. We cannot compare test protocols with a competitor who does not publish theirs.
I bought Protect-A-Bed for my home. Should I switch?
Probably not, if it fits and the zipper still seals properly. A working encasement is doing its job and there is no reason to replace it on brand alone.
Replace any encasement, ours or anyone's, when the zipper no longer closes fully, seams separate, the waterproof layer degrades, or it no longer fits after the mattress has compressed.
Can Bargoose match the sizes I currently buy?
In nearly all cases. We make 6", 9", 12" and 16" depths, a stretch-to-fit 9" to 12" option, and institutional sizes including Hospital Twin at 36" x 80" and Duty Bunk. We also produce custom sizes to specification for bariatric beds, marine berths and non-standard frames.
