Two problems, one cover
Waterproof and bed bug proof are usually sold as two products, and most buyers end up choosing one. On a zippered encasement they turn out to be the same thing: a sealed impermeable surface with no opening a bug can pass through and no seam a liquid can reach.
That is why an encasement costs more than a simple protector, and why it outlasts both of the things it replaces.
