A zippered encasement for the whole mattress, made from Pristine® woven polyester. The fabric is not coated or laminated, so it breathes and stays quiet like a good sheet. The tight weave is the allergen barrier: it blocks dust mites and their allergens without a membrane on the back.

Fabric

  • 100% polyester Pristine® fabric, tightly woven from fine yarns.
  • No coating, laminate or finish that can wear off in use.
  • Air and moisture vapor pass through, so it adds no heat to the bed.
  • Latex-free.

Construction

  • Zips closed around all six sides of the mattress.
  • Heavy gauge nylon zipper with a coated, rust-proof metal pull.
  • Double-stitched seams, at least 12 stitches per inch.
  • Sizes Twin through Cal King. The size menu shows the depths in stock for each size.

Care

Machine wash cold, warm or hot. Do not use chlorine bleach. Machine dry on medium. Make sure the encasement is completely dry before it goes back on the mattress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to wash the encasement before first use?
No. We do not treat our fabrics with chemicals or antimicrobial coatings, so it is ready to use as supplied. Washed bedding cannot be returned unless it is defective.

Do I need to clean the mattress first?
No. You can vacuum it, but it is not necessary. If you use an anti-allergen spray or steam cleaner, let the mattress dry completely before you put the encasement on.

How often should I wash it?
Once or twice a year. Your fitted sheet keeps it clean. Wash sheets and pillowcases weekly.

Does it need to fit tightly?
No. A slightly loose fit is best. A tight fit can make the mattress feel stiff and strains the seams and zipper.

Should my mattress pad go inside or on top?
In most cases, put the pad on the mattress and zip the encasement over both. That keeps the pad clean as well.

How to Put It On

  1. Strip the blankets and sheets.
  2. Slide the mattress toward the foot of the bed and stand it on end. If there is a footboard, slide the mattress to the side first.
  3. Pull the encasement over the top end and work it about halfway down.
  4. Lay the mattress back down, pull the encasement the rest of the way and zip it closed.
  5. Make the bed with clean sheets.

Quality Material

I bought a 12" and 9" mattress cover to go over my 8" Lifekind Innerspring mattress set. I used the 9" on the box springs, the 12" on the mattress to give plenty of room so as not to stress the zipper. It fit nicely over the box spring. The material is thick and has a quality feel. I picked polyester over cotton as cotton tends to absorb moisture and since this set is a cotton mattress, I felt the polyester would give it more protection against absorbing moisture, and polyester lasts longer, too. ;-)
